Strata: see the shape

Strata identifies the typed moments in a piece: openings, context, claims, examples, turns, and conclusions. How many there are depends on the piece rather than on a fixed number: a short post gets a handful, and a long, dense one can run to a few dozen. It is a map into the full source, not a summary that lets you skip it.
