Why Omphalis
Last updated 2026-07-31, from the Learn Omphalis edition.
Most tools help you collect more or consume faster. Omphalis is a custodial center for understanding: a place where material you choose to keep becomes readable, structured, markable, and returnable.
The aim is comprehension, not reduction. Omphalis does not replace an article, conversation, podcast, video, or document with a shortcut. It removes format friction and adds orientation so you can engage with the source, preserve your own thinking, and find the useful part again.
Every format enters one stream. An essay, meeting, PDF, voice note, and saved highlight can inform one another without dividing your thinking from other people's work. Start with one item; the first two layers should already make it better to read. Connections become more useful as the Library grows.
- Clean — Turn the source into a calm, faithful reading surface.
- Structure — Use Strata to see the source's meaningful moments without replacing it.
- Mark — Use the Mark layer for precise system Source, Define, and Expand annotations and for your own highlights and notes.
- Connection — Relate material across the Library while preserving provenance and uncertainty.
